Storytelling manifesto

What is storytelling?

Storytelling happens all around us all the time!

We are all storytellers.

We tell each other stories about our days and our dreams.

We tell each other stories about our homes, our travels, our beliefs and fears.

We tell each other stories about things we remember and things we have been told.

Some stories are very, very old - part of our tradition and history.

Some stories are sparklingly new - part of the life we are living.

Some stories are true, some are glorious creations.

Yet we have forgotten that we are storytellers…

In days gone by families gathered of an evening and shared their tales of the day’s events, of news received in letters,

they sang stories in songs and kept the storytelling craft alive and vibrant.

Today we sit in front of a screen - TV or tablet - and stories are told to us: gruesome news reports, sit-coms,family Facebook posts or tweets.

We hear and see and write our stories, rather than telling them.

We have forgotten how to convey stories with our voices and eyes, with gestures and smiles.

My Introduction to Storytelling workshop during the Prince Albert Winter School

is designed to re-awaken your skills as a storyteller.

Join me for two days of fun and learning as you discover how to tell a story of your choice.

Skills we will develop include

 How to craft your story

Beginnings and endings

Using your voice and body

Fun with simple props

and you will develop and tell a story you have brought with you.

Woven into the course are hints on storytelling for children,

telling environmental stories and local tales.

The workshop will be run in English

Notes will be provided

Tea and coffee will be served during the morning break.
